We’ve all seen the super-realistic pencil drawings that street artists like to sketch of celebrities. Popular subjects of late seem to have been Justin Bieber, Cheryl Cole and Roger Federer (of course alongside your classic Michael Jacksons and Gwyneth Paltrows). These artists often combine the sale of these sketches with the offer of a personal caricature.

Today’s post is not about accurate illustrations of celebrities – it’s about quality illustrations of celebrities (some would call them caricatures – I personally don’t like the word). This selection of images showcase some of the world’s most original and exciting illustrators.

Note: See if you can spot the Meryl Streeps.

About 3 weeks ago I bought myself a copy of Don DeLillo’s ‘End Zone‘ for a bit of summer reading. I can unashamedly admit that this choice was strongly influenced by the cover!

Whilst browsing for some inspiration today I was delighted to discover that the cover is part of a series of ten powerful illustrations by ‘It’s Nice That’ and Noma Bar…

Noma Bar:
“After a long process that involved in reading, researching & sketching, I started to pull out some of the main elements of each story and tried to understand how Don DeLillo tailored them together. The result is a bold image for each cover that can looks conventional at first, but at second glimpse reveals the whole story.” (from Picador’s blog)

Note: I have not yet got around to reading ‘End Zone’, but when I do you can be sure I’ll enjoy looking cool on the underground with Noma’s cover.

When face painting gets serious…

Posted by: Henry Rivers | Comments (1)

Today we’ve put together a showcase of works from some of the most creative minds in fine art body painting. If you thought face painting was all about pink butterflies and comedy moustaches, prepare to think differently.

Note: this post does feature a spotty leopard painting… but not the sort you would find at a village fĂȘte.
