Featured Designer Tuomas Pekkarinen

By Robert Rea

This week Reflex Stock Photos interviewed Tuomas Pekkarinen, a 27 year old designer from finland.
Tuomas studied at North Karelia University of applied Science which he mainly focused on Multimedia, and in this interview
you can see why he focused on multimedia, with his amazing talent which glows within his work. Tuomas mainly goes for sci-fi, fantasy and dark imagery.
I hope you enjoy reading this blog as I enjoyed creating it.

What is your favourite part of the design process?:

I enjoy the beginning of creating images most, the part when you only have an empty canvas in front of you and you start throwing around different elements together. Seeing what happens when combining a lot of different elements together in order to give birth to something completely new is what keeps me going. Rest of the creative-process is good too, but it´s the start I enjoy the most.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? :

With any luck I have moved away from the city at that point, to live in the countryside where I am from originally. Making a living from graphic design, working from home, thanks to the internet.

Where do get your inspiration?:

I draw inspiration from pretty much anything around me, things I see while walking outside, from movies I see, games I enjoy, some random image from TV and so on. Also I have rather vivid dreams every now and then, some good, some horrifying, but all great source for inspiration. Nightmares especially makes for great artworks when realized on the screen.

Who is your favourite designer and why?:

It´s nearly impossible for me to choose only one, since I follow artists who specialize in many different fields of design. I´m heavily interested in photo-manipulators, space-artists, digital painters, fractal-artist, 3d-modellers, traditional painters, sculptors and so on.
But if I´d only have to mention one, I guess it would have to be Marek Okon , a very talented digital painter from Poland. His visions from the future are very similar to my own dream-world and are always a great source for inspiration.

Have you been looking for work?:

As for interviews, I´ve only done a few, a couple to some art-related sites/blogs where my works were displayed, and some inside DeviantArt where I hang around most while online, some of those were just random journals and some included bigger community-art projects where I was taking part.

What would you like to gain from this exposure?:

Just some new eyes to experience my work, and with any luck they enjoy & be inspired by it. Some new clients wouldn´t hurt either, but I don´t mind if that doesn´t happen. I´m keeping fairly busy anyway since it´s the end of the year, a lot of bands releasing their new albums so it´s a busy time of the year for me and many other cover-designers.

What else interests you and motivates your creativity?:

I´ve been an adrenaline junkie pretty much all my life, started skateboarding at a young age, and later on snowboarding also. Those two are always big interests for me, along with the usual stuff, music, movies, gaming etc. Anything that gives me a decent thrill, always keeps lifeve worth living for & the creative flames burning strong.

That was the end of the weekly interview with this talent designer. If interested in being one of the next designers in our weekly designer feature please contact Sarah anne.
